TIME & TIDE ART - SCULPTOR
My love of beach combing began after being fascinated by a piece of sea glass perfectly smoothed over time by the tide. This quickly progressed to honing my eye to find various treasures the beach has to offer. Not all of it is treasure, and as we are all aware, our seas and beaches are full of plastic and rubbish.
This naturally lead to creating pieces that show the beauty of the natural world and highlighting the effect humanity has on our environment. I include various time and tide worn finds such as; coal found on northern beaches that is beautifully smoothed and patinaed; everyday items that have been battered by the sea; and characterful pieces of antique china which retain their decoration. There’s no better feeling for me than finding a piece of rare coloured sea glass and incorporating it into a unique piece of my art.
I have always enjoyed creating visual displays with unusual finds and repurposing the discarded. My favourite place to comb is Scotland and enjoy travelling the inspiring landscape and hoping to find a secluded beach waiting to be discovered. Scotland is a common theme in my designs.
