Leah Wadey is a Contemporary Jeweller based in West Sussex, UK. Using hand textured sterling silver and vibrant enamels on copper, she creates unique designs that are inspired by elements of nature and architecture.
The stimulus for Leah’s work is a subtle mix between organic forms and man made structures; fascinated by their constructions and characteristics, she aims to capture an uncommon visual perspective. These perspectives are observed by looking through, below and above the form, studying the elements of space. The skeletal components, created through an intensity of wire soldering, develop the object further, generating a break through in design. Her collections are developed through a prominent use of collage; breaking down imagery to cultivate forms and ideas.
The enamel segments in her work bring each piece the life with the use of either bold block colours or intricately detailed speckling across the surface, this is offset by the contrast of the high shine or subdued dullness of the hammered silver wire.
Through her work, Leah aims to create a diverse collection of pieces; she is passionate about bringing contemporary design into everyday wear and exposing a new and modern audience to the beauty of enamelling. Along with this, Leah takes great enjoyment from creating stand-alone statement designs where she can experiment largely with scale, colour and materials.
