KATE HEISS - PRINTMAKER

Kate Heiss is a contemporary British Printmaker who creates dynamic, vibrant, illustrative prints that are inspired by her love of nature.

Kate studied at the Royal College of Art in London graduating with an MA in Textile Design in 1997. She then worked as a Textile Designer across a wide range of fashion brands before setting up her own Printmaking Studio in 2011. Her love of textiles continues to influence her bold use of colour and pattern.

Plants, flowers and her love of gardening alongside her interest in ornithology and entomology form her main inspiration for her designs.

Most of Kate’s prints are inspired by a place or walk through a certain landscape where she will forage, sketch and photograph elements to provide her a starting point for her designs. Kate has a special affinity with the Norfolk Coast and countryside of East Anglia which is the source of inspiration for many of her prints.

Her work is handmade in her studio in Hertfordshire and is regularly exhibited across the UK.

Kate mainly works with linocuts but has worked in a variety of other techniques including Screen Print, Chine Collé, and Collage.

Each print is hand printed onto paper in small editions on her printing press in her studio.

You can see some of Kate’s work licensed on products and featured in a variety of books.

Her clients include international stationery and homeware brands such as The Art File, Flame Tree Publishing, Half Moon Bay and Museums & Galleries.
